After graduating from college in 1971, Doug  took his first job working with children as a house parent  at the Methodist Home for Children in Raleigh, N.C.  There he had charge of 10 boys, ages 8-14, caring for their daily needs.  Ever since then working with young children, adolescents and families has been a major focus of his work.   Doug's  postgraduate training in child and family therapy was at the Family Therapy Institute of Washington, D.C.  He worked with children and their families at the Carroll County Mental Health Clinic Children's Unit.  His work as a family therapist is well known in the community.  Some of the issues that he addresses in individual child and family therapy are:
